Laputa, then, now, and forever..love...

I went to go see Miyazaki Hayao's Laputa tonight at the Egyptian. I have seen this film hundreds of times over the past 25 years- on Japanese tv for holiday special screenings and later on a tattered VHS tape (dubbed from Laser Disc!) bought from a video rental store in Little Tokyo. Now for the first time ever, I was getting to see a screening of the 35mm print at the American Cinematheque. I saw colors and details, heard sounds that I had never been able to pick up on a tiny tv screen. Instantly transported to a magical sense of Japan that is Laputa, I was home. I'm pretty sure that a movie that I've seen 100's of times, and ADORED absolutely every single time must constitute an all-time favorite movie.
