Fallen fruit (East Coast style?)

This is probably by no means an East Coast phenomenon, but while walking down Armstrong Road in Hamilton, (Upstate) New York, I came upon this vision of fallen fruit in water, a first for me. Apple trees lined a small river  (creek? canal?) that ran alongside the road, and as the crispy wind (the summer "weather has broken" - also a first in hearing this expression) rustled the branches, small apples dropped into the river with small "bloop bloop" sounds.
