Hoover dayum.....standing over Lake Mead, that is totally what went through my mind. The audacity to imagine and engineer such a project right smack dab during the Great Depression is mind boggling. Over 100 lives were lost in its construction and the total cost of building the dam was around $50 million in 1931. As of 2008, that apparently is the equivalent to about $690 million.
